May 20, 2009:While enjoying a short break with friends at a cabin in the Canadian Rockies at Kananaskis, Alberta, we came across these fresh grizzly bear tracks in the newly-fallen snow. Judging by the 13cm (5 inch) paw prints, this trail likely belonged to a young griz out chasing a deer. I took the initiative to cross the snow and a mountain stream, then attempted to climb an ice shelf and embankment to see if I could follow the trail. When the ice shelf unexpectedly plunged a few feet into the stream - with me on it - I ended my pursuit but went away satisfied with a nice collection of photos. Great stuff!
There's a three-foot high snow drift at my living room deck door, and I can't get it open. There's not anything special in this photo. It's just the way it is on January 3, 2009.
Reviewing some photos taken at one of the old houses explored in recent months, I felt this was certainly worth posting. Here sharp rays of light pierce through cracks in the now-shingleless roof and plasterless ceiling, casting an interesting image on the dark features of what was once a beautiful mural-covered wall. No one living in the home 70 or so years ago could have imagined someone finding beauty in what would become natural decay in the eventually abandoned structure.
Several recent devasting fires in Medicine Hat's downtown core resulted in the loss of some century-old buildings. One of the fires, on Second Street, destroyed a large apartment building and ground-level stores. Once all the rubble was removed, the empty lot revealed this once-hidden wall. Just a little peek at the past.
There's something unusually nice about this simple photo with the pending darkness revealing a streak of silver rails from the rays of the setting sun.
This simple photo portrays a series of stairs crossing the CPR line coming in to Medicine Hat. I liked the way the setting autumn sun added a touch of gold to the peculiar pattern captured from my perspective.
A fancy expensive camera is not always necessary to capture a nice photo. I don't need to see the white of the pilots' eyes! A great afternoon with family and friends.
Brad, in his nice clean jeans, is ready to tackle the calves for branding. To see the well-worked look, go back to DavidzJourney and click on BradzLife... all the way to the bottom of the page.
This humble blogger gently clips some ear tags on a calf. After doing about 200 ears, I feel qualified to offer free ear piercings to all family and friends.
